..there was no dualism between their religious convictions and their political aspirations. For them, Christianity could not be divorced from life as a whole; certainly, it could not be divorced from the plight of their fellow black people in the land. In this respect, these black Christian leaders were no different in their understanding of Christian political responsibility from the Afrikaner theologians and ministers who shared the burden of the day in the afrikaner struggle against the British.
