Apple to release new iPod Touch

I have to be honest, the title is flagrant speculation, but there is solid theory to my outlandish claims.

Before I explain though, I should say that I am a huge fan of the iPod Touch, it has been over shadowed as a product due to its slightly more charismatic sister the iPhone, but it is a perfect, and considerably cheaper option than the iPhone. I’ve written about that more here, but for now it’s just worth knowing that despite the hype, the iPod Touch is an 80% comparable product at about 10% of the cost of the iPhone, and that margin is soon to move a little further into the iPod Touch’s favour.

Here are my predictions for what will be a Late Sept/Early Oct release:

New iPod Touch:

Will Almost definitely:

  1. Have a Camera
  2. Have a Better speaker
  3. Have in-built microphone

Will probably

  1. Have a Camera that can take video like 3GS
  2. Have GPS

Will maybe

  1. Have larger capacity?
  2. Larger screen size (a la Newton II rumours!)
  3. iWork mobile suite

My Preiction for an iPod Touch update is based upon:

  1. iPod Touch/Macbook student deal, pointing to the fact that Apple are trying to get the old model out of the door ASAP.
  2. Apart from the OS update, there has been no hardware upgrade since its original release, despite 2 further iPhone models
  3. Mac Rumors Buyers Guide hasn’t been wrong yet!
